– It is a very uncertain situation, and the city that we do not want to infect at all. So it’s clear that all the red lights go on when we have an employee testing positive, says municipal chief physician Jan Helge Dale.

Kinn’s municipal chief called this afternoon for a press conference after a nursing student tested positive for the coronavirus. The woman is a student at Høgskulen på Vestlandet in Førde, and for the past four weeks she has been doing an internship at the Florø health center.

Firdaposten was the first to mention the case.

The hospital is now closed for visitors and the two wards are isolated. Family members are informed and asked not to do anything even if they have been visiting.

All 46 residents were evaluated the day before. 17 employees have also been tested and 22 more will be tested.

– Everyone has been with her for the last three days. The last shift was Friday morning, Dale says. Wait for the samples to be analyzed today.

– This means that we leave early with the sampling and we have the opportunity to define the best possible, he says.

Mild symptoms

The municipality was informed at 6 pm on Tuesday. The woman tests positive at her home in Bergen and is also followed there. Give the woman praise.

– He did everything in an exemplary way and informed us last night, so that we could start the mill, he says.

– The symptoms are very mild. Slightly runny nose, no fever, no sore throat and no heavy breathing, says the municipal superior.

– Has the student been infected at work?

– We do not know since it has such diffuse symptoms, but we must fear that.

Trace of infection 72 hours

The municipality has a trace of contagion 72 hours from the student’s last shift. He is in direct contact with the residents and in meetings with the rest of the healthcare center staff.

Dale still has no reason to believe that others are infected.

– Neither residents nor employees have symptoms, he says, adding that the samples have already been sent to the microbiology department of Førde hospital for analysis.

Second care center

Given that the municipal chief considers that the risk of contagion is not very great internally, people at work are as usual.

– We have fine-tuned the basic hygiene routines, and we have said that now is not the time to visit and birthday visits in your spare time, says Dale.

This is the second infection in a care facility in Florø. At the beginning of the pandemic, three nurses tested positive for corona. At that time, the infection did not spread to residents.

In the last two days, more than 100 people have been tested for Covid-19 in the Flora part of Kinn. Without positive tests, Dale is confident that there is no infection in society.
