The fire brigade, health personnel and the police are on site.
– People have been evacuated into adjacent buildings and it is now reported that everyone should be outside the burning building, operations manager in the eastern police district, Svein Walle, tells NRK.
The old town is the oldest part of Fredrikstad with many buildings worthy of protection.
The building where it is burned is located in Voldgaten. The fire service is now working to map any possible spread hazards and evacuate neighboring buildings.
There is a lot of smoke and open flames from the building.

– Our job now is to monitor the residents in the building in question and the surrounding buildings, so that they are safe. Then the fire service works to locate the fire and put it out, Walle says.
Police write on Twitter that the public is being asked to keep their distance so that emergency services can work unhindered.
At least one person has suffered burns to an arm on the spot. The person in question is cared for by health personnel.
Police are asking residents in the area to close windows and doors to keep smoke out.
