Ruth Grung withdraws from nomination in Labor Party

Odd Harald Hovland has previously been Mayor of Bømlo. He is now the sheriff of Stord, and according to the cases of the local Sunnhordland newspaper, it appears that he is busy with the obviously many speeding criminals of the relatively isolated archipelago.

But if the nominating committee gets what they want, the 58-year-old will win a permanent Storting seat beginning in 2021. He “takes control” of Sunnhordland’s place on the Labor list from Magne Rommetveit, who has declined the re-election.

At the top, nothing unexpected, the committee has appointed the mayor of Bergen, Marte Mjøs Persen (45).

But after this, the committee has taken a somewhat unexpected step with Eigil Knutsen (32) and Ruth Grung (62) in mind.

Knutsen is behind Hovland, despite the fact that the Labor Party has previously had a hard line with all other women and men. Now the candidate is two and three men, that is. Only the first three places are completely safe for the Labor Party.

The list has been sent out today for consultation with the various local teams of the Labor Party in Hordaland. The committee also did not fully agree on everything, the list shows.

Linda Monsen Merkesdal placed fifth, but both AUF and Ullensvang want other candidates here. The same applies to sixth place, where Ullensvang wants its candidate in place of Benjamin Jacobsen.

– We hope and believe that this is a list in which ordinary people can recognize themselves. We have women and men. Parents of young children, grandparents and youth, says committee chair Marianne Bjorøy

This list was made available for consultation at 12 noon. At 1500, Ruth Grung announces that she is retiring from the list.

– It’s because the committee puts me in fourth place, which becomes a battlefield, after two men. It’s too unsafe for me. I’d rather spend my energy on other things, Grung tells BA.

You don’t want a free spot with a lot of round trips, but to this day you thought you were in third place.

– In politics, one is prepared for anything to happen. I had decided beforehand that third place is the limit for me. Now I want to apply for other jobs, although I am lucky and can get back to my job as a department head at NAV.

– Have you won party votes before, but this time you will not resume the party?

– I could have mobilized to change this, but I’m not quite there. I take the consequence of the commission’s proposal. Eight years at the Storting are good. I don’t feel unwanted either, but he’s a loner that should go up.
