Unemployment continues to fall and has more than halved since the crown’s peak in April. But the level is still significantly higher than before the crisis.

The number of total unemployed falls from 3,700 to 108,300 in the last week, according to new figures from Nav. This corresponds to 3.8 percent of the workforce.
This is the sixth consecutive week of decline in unemployment. However, the number is still significantly higher than in the same period last year. In September 2019, by comparison, 61,314 were completely unemployed.
– The improvement of the labor market continues. Although there have been 12,500 fewer job seekers so far in September, there are still more registering as new job seekers now than before the crisis. Nav Director Hans Christian Holte says in a press release.

Including the fully unemployed, partially unemployed and job seekers in the measures on Nav, 204,000 unemployed were recorded on Tuesday, corresponding to 7.2 percent. That’s 4,200 less than last week.
There is also a decrease in the number of layoffs of 5,100 from the previous week. In all, 2.7 percent of the workforce is now laid off; 28,000 in total unemployment and 48,500 in partial unemployment.
When the company closed in March, unemployment rose sharply to a high of more than 10 percent in early April. Including the partially unemployed and people in the measures, Nav recorded a maximum of 433,000 unemployed, which corresponds to just over 15 percent of the workforce.
Nav’s registered unemployment is one of the most important indicators of how the Norwegian economy is doing, and Norges Bank is closely monitoring it.
