As usual, it was Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor Party) who booked Tuesday’s press conference in Bergen.
An unprecedented peak in the number of new infection cases per day was reached on Saturday, when the municipality had 43 new cases. On Sunday the number was 34 and on Monday the number 32 was a new case.
In the last 24 hours, 25 new cases of contagion have been registered in the municipality.
– Today’s figures are in isolation lower than what we have seen. However, it is too early to tell if it is a downtrend. 25 is still a high number, Valhammer says.
Health Minister Beate Husa (KrF) was not present at Tuesday’s press conference. As she herself reports on Facebook, she is hospitalized after a bicycle accident.
Councilor for Labor and Social Affairs Lubna Jaffery (Labor Party) will be Husa’s deputy councilor until further notice.
Progressive general infection
There is an unknown route of transmission for five of the new infections in Bergen. Valhammer hopes that tracking the infection will provide answers.
– Today’s figures are a continuation of the negative trend that we have seen in the last week, that is, more and more different groups are infected. On the other hand, it is positive that 20 of the 25 cases have known routes of infection, since they are close contacts of previous infections, says Valhammer.
There is a uniform age distribution in new cases of infection. People aged 12 and up to 87 years have been diagnosed with covid-19.
The municipality has also been able to confirm a new case of contagion in the Gartnarmarken nursing homes, so the total number of infections is six neighbors and two employees.
Also in the student community, new cases of infection were reported on Tuesday. UiB has three new cases of infection, while BI has a new case, BT writes.
You should consider measures
It’s been a week since Bergen introduced its own measures to overcome the outbreak in the city.
The municipality has emergency personnel and since then there have been daily press conferences to update the inhabitants on the cases of contagion and the effect of the measures that have been implemented.
On Monday it was revealed that it is relevant to extend the period of measures in Bergen. Initially, the measure was to last ten days until September 18.
– Tomorrow we will begin to assess the effects of the measures and we will closely monitor developments in the coming days. Then we will see if it is enough for us to cancel the measures as planned on Friday, says Valhammer.
Five people admitted
On Tuesday, five people were hospitalized in Bergen with coronary heart disease. Three of them are admitted to Haukeland University Hospital, while the last two are admitted to Haraldsplass.
None of them are in intensive care. 106 employees at Helse Bergen are under quarantine as a result of 26 employees being diagnosed with covid-19.
The corona infection was also detected in several locations in Vestland on Tuesday, including the NRK Vestland office in Førde.
These are the measures that apply until September 18 inclusive in Bergen:
- Maximum 10 people in private collections.
- Maximum 50 people at public events.
- Recommend the use of mouthpiece in public transport if a distance of one meter cannot be maintained.
- Everyone who can have a home office should have a home office.
