Anders infected in the middle of the epicenter

Anders Søgnebotten Lang-Ree (21) from Romedal, not far from Hamar, began his studies at NHH in Bergen this August.

– It has been very special and it has not been an optimal start, says Anders, who was diagnosed with coronary disease on September 3.

He believes he was infected on August 29 by a friend who had been to a party in the basement.

– NHH has been the epicenter of the infection in Bergen, due to a basement party that was organized. There were about 100 students at NHH who were infected in 1 week, Anders tells Hamar Arbeiderblad, who mentioned the case for the first time.

Coronahotell

The 21-year-old tells Dagbladet that he was with his friend right after this basement party, before the friend knew he had been infected.

– We just hang out and sit on the same couch, says Anders.

When the friend later told him that he had been infected, it was a short time before Anders himself began to feel symptoms.

– Then I immediately thought it was crown, says the 21-year-old.

The same day he was diagnosed with the virus himself, on September 3, he moved into a corona hotel in Bergen. He lived there for eight days.

– Discomfort in the lungs

– When I got the result, it was not a big surprise, but it was very special to know that I had the virus that I had been following since it originated in China, in my body.

– How did the disease progress with you?

– I quickly had a fever and got sick, but it wasn’t long, maybe two or three days, before I was on the road to recovery, Anders says.

– Were you scared at some point?

– I know it is dangerous for people with poor health or the elderly, and that young people get away with a mild illness, so I was not afraid. But one night I was a little nervous when I felt a discomfort in my lungs. Then I felt bad and thought “this could be interesting”.

Infection control

He says he has also thought a lot about whether he could have infected someone else. You’ve come to the conclusion that you don’t think you have it.

– Based on my own infection detection, I don’t think I have infected others, but you can never be sure. No one in my collective was infected, he says.

That she lives in a bus was the main reason she was offered to stay at the crown hotel in Bergen.

If she had stayed at home, it would have been difficult to protect herself from the people she shared an apartment with.

– Therefore, they picked me up at home in an ambulance, where I had to sit in the back. I had to wear a mask and not touch anything. I had several tests done and all the healthcare workers were wearing full infection control gear.

Soothing

At the corona hotel, Anders got a separate room with his own bathroom.

– That solution was great. We had three floors, which were full of students. There we had several common rooms, so that we could socialize as much as we wanted. We could play board games and watch TV with other people in the same situation, which was comforting.

Anders believes that the outbreak in Bergen entering the student community is a coincidence.

– It is difficult to prevent the spread of infection when you may be infected without knowing it or without symptoms. It’s completely a coincidence where this happens, he says.

On Friday, September 11, Anders checked out of the corona hotel.

– It is very tasty, says the 21-year-old, who adds that he is healthy as a fish.

New measures

On Tuesday last week, the Bergen municipality introduced a series of measures in hopes of limiting the strong outbreak of infection that has hit the city recently. This included a ban on private gatherings of more than ten people.

The limit for public events was lowered from 200 to 50 people, and restaurants and bars had to operate visitor lists.

There have been 32 new people infected with corona in Bergen in the last 24 hours.

There are as many as in the last few days, Councilman Roger Valhammer said during a news conference Monday afternoon.
