In a press release, the West Police District writes that the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment (FFI) has tested the efficacy of bacterial leakage on six of the seized bandages.

– The result shows that they all have a filtration efficiency of at least 98 percent, which corresponds to the requirement of Type I, II or IIR nozzles. Only a small selection of face masks have been tested and are therefore not considered representative of the total number of face masks seized, writes police attorney Sigrid Sulland in the press release.

It was on September 1 when the police arrested businessman Idar Vollvik in Bergen. Vollvik was the target of the incorrect packaging and labeling of bandages, which are sold through various online stores.

He explained himself that he had the face mask pack from 50 packs to 10 packs, and admitted that he had taken the brand too lightly.

Still, he denies guilt.

– There is no profit motive behind this, the series founder told NRK the day after its release.

Police: – Better than fear

The nozzles are tested to determine how effectively they filter bacteria. However, that the efficiency is so high has nothing to say about the charges against Vollvik, says police lawyer Sulland.

– The police are happy that the results may indicate that the bandage that has been marked has better quality than fear. However, only the effectiveness of bacterial filtration has been tested. There are a number of other requirements that have been established for a mouthpiece to be CE marked as a Type I, II or IIR medical mouthpiece.

Police add that only bacterial filtration efficiency has been tested and that there are a number of other requirements behind a CE approval.

– Therefore, the test report cannot give a final assessment of the quality of the nozzle, stated in the press release.

Furthermore, the police believe that Vollvik has labeled non-medical sanitary napkins as medical sanitary napkins. Labeling is illegal regardless of whether the nozzle is of better quality than the original label says, they write.
