For the second time in a few days, unfortunate photos of Mason Greenwood appear. The Manchester United shooting star has to apologize again.
A few days after Greenwood and Manchester City player Phil Foden had to leave the England team after a female visit to the players’ hotel, the 18-year-old is experiencing bad weather again.
This time it is The Sun newspaper that publishes images of Greenwood filling a balloon with nitrous oxide and inhaling from the balloon. Nitrous oxide is also known as “hippy crack” in England and is used as an intoxicant.
Greenwood has commented on the nitrous oxide episode in a statement sent through Manchester United, reproduced, among others, by the BBC, Sky Sports and The Telegraph. There he laments what he describes as “lack of judgment.”
– I have learned of the health risks of using this, and I acknowledge that just trying it out, as you can see from these historical images, was bad judgment on my part. Please do not follow my example, says the United striker.
While Greenwood calls the photos “historic,” The Sun claims they were taken just weeks before he made his debut for England’s A team. It happened against Iceland eight days ago.
It was after this particular match that Greenwood and Foden invited two women to their hotel room, which is contrary to the quarantine regulations of the national team. Therefore, the two recent debutants were not allowed to join the national team until the game against Denmark earlier this week.
– At 18, I learn all the time, but this week I have also learned that I am judged with a higher standard due to my career as a footballer, and I must respect that in the future. I am determined to show that I am worthy of the trust that my manager and coaches have in me, says Greenwood.
