– No one who does not want to build parking spaces will be required to do so. This applies to the entire city, says acting city development councilor Arild Hermstad (MDG) to Aftenposten.

At the same time, a roof will be introduced on how many places can be built.

Today’s rules require that all new single-family homes must have two parking spaces and a change on their own lot. On the outskirts of the city, there is a somewhat simplified requirement of one parking space for each apartment and two for each dwelling in small house areas. In the city center, 0.7 parking spaces are required per three-room apartment.

The Hermstad city councilor’s goal with the proposed rule changes is fewer cars and less driving.

– This is a measure that does not cost money. At the same time, it contributes to more and more affordable housing being built, he says.

The City Council will also toughen the regulations for commercial real estate, both offices and commercial premises. In practice, it will be impossible to build large individual stores and car-based shopping centers.
