Since Madeleine McCann disappeared from a vacation apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in 2007, the police have been trying to find out what happened to the then three-year-old girl.
In June, police confirmed that a 43-year-old German was suspected in the case.
However, in an interview with Sky News, the German police admit that the investigation is difficult.
– We don’t have enough to press charges. But there is some advice that makes us optimistic that the investigation will be successful, says the prosecutor in the case, Hans Christian Wolters, on British television.

400 tips
In recent months, the police in the UK and Germany have received more than 400 tips on the case.
“We haven’t found anything in the last three months that makes us think we have the wrong person, but the evidence we have now is the same as when we went to press in June,” Wolters told Sky News.
German police are investigating the case as a murder case and have stated that they have reason to believe McCann is dead, without saying anything on what they base the assumption on.
The German, who has served several prison terms for sexually abusing children, is said to have remained in Praia de Luz at the same time that Madeleine disappeared.

I have not given up
The parents of the British girl, who was three years old when she disappeared, hope that the case will finally be solved. Parents’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell has previously stated to the BBC that the parents are grateful for the development but still believe the daughter is alive.
– They have not given up hope of finding Madeleine alive, despite the time that has passed. They have never given up hope, Mitchell said.
He stressed that parents are both realistic and need answers to find peace.

– There will be no trial
The defender of the German, Friedrich Fulscher, has the following to say about the police suspicion of his client.
– Where is the evidence? Why hasn’t the prosecution filed anything? Fulscher tells The Sun.
He believes that the 43-year-old will never be charged with having anything to do with the kidnapping.
– There will be no lawsuit against my client regarding Madeleine McCann. I’m sure, he says.
