This is a historic advance in the Middle East peace process, the three countries wrote in a joint statement on Friday.
The island state is therefore the fourth Arab state to normalize relations with Israel.
“The opening of direct dialogue and ties between these two dynamic societies and developed economies will continue the positive turmoil in the Middle East and increase stability, security and prosperity in the region,” the statement said.
Uplifting message
“This sends an encouraging message to the people of Israel that a just and complete peace with the Palestinian people is the best way,” Khalid al-Khalifa, former Bahrain foreign minister and current adviser to the king, wrote on Twitter.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describes the deal with Bahrain as the beginning of a “new era of peace” in the regions.
In August, Israel and the United Arab Emirates agreed to normalize relations. Before that, Egypt and Jordan were the only Arab countries that had diplomatic relations with Israel.
Prejudices
In a statement, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) described the agreement as a betrayal of the Palestinian cause. Hamas also condemns the agreement.
US President Donald Trump describes the day as “historic” in a statement from the White House.
He also said “good things” could happen to the Palestinians, but did not elaborate.
