Nettavisen (New York): The book “Rage”, written by the serious journalist Bob Woodward, who together with Carl Bernstein revealed the Watergate scandal almost half a century ago, has refocused on the relationship between President Donald Trump and the North. Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
In the book, which will be published on September 15, Woodward reveals, among other things, the correspondence between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un, a relationship the latter describes as a “fantasy movie.”

CNN: “Love letter”
CNN calls the 27 letters Trump wrote with Kim Jong-un, 25 of which had never been mentioned before, “love letters.”
In the letters, Kim describes the bond between the leaders as something from a “fantasy movie,” he says in the description of the next book on Amazon. The editor also writes that the two are engaged in “an extraordinary diplomatic minuet,” according to NTB.
So far, Trump has not commented on the letters and the relationship with Kim Jong-un after the book received a lot of publicity, but on Wednesday Trump wrote the following on Twitter.
– Kim Jong-un is in good health. Never underestimate it! writes Trump.
The border with North Korea has been closed for months, and this summer there were rumors that Kim Jong-un was ill and that his sister had taken more control of the country. According to South Korean intelligence, Kim Jong-un transferred much of the responsibility for ruling the country to his sister Kim Yo-jong this summer. The sister is now de facto the country’s deputy leader, the intelligence service said at a hearing in late August.

Woodward’s book also claims that President Donald Trump deliberately numbed how dangerous the coronavirus was.
According to the well-known serious journalist, Trump has told him that he knew that the coronavirus was life-threatening and much more dangerous than a common flu.
– Just breathe air and this is how it is transferred. So it is very difficult. It’s very complicated. It is also more deadly than a severe flu, Trump said in an interview with Woodward on February 7.

Then he adds that “these are deadly things.”
A few weeks later, he admitted to Woodward that he was trying to portray the virus as less dangerous than it was.
– I always wanted to tone it down. I still like to tone it down, because I don’t want to panic, she said in an interview on March 19.

Biden: “He lied”
Since then, Trump has come under fire for deliberately numbing how dangerous the coronavirus was.
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden accuses Trump of betraying the American people and said he deliberately lied about the coronavirus.
– I knew how deadly it was. It was far more deadly than the flu, Biden said at an event in Michigan, one of the tipping states in this year’s presidential election.
Biden refers to the president’s cover-up as “negligence of duty” and “a disgrace.”
He knew it and lowered his tone on purpose. Worse, he lied to the American people. He knowingly and willingly lied for months about the threat to the country, Biden said in the verbal attack on the president.
– Calm down, don’t panic!
Criticism, however, bounces off the president.
– Bob Woodward had my dates for many months. If you thought they were so bad or dangerous, why didn’t you immediately report them in an attempt to save lives? Didn’t he have a duty to do it? No, because he knew they were good and correct answers. Calm down, don’t panic! Trump wrote on Twitter on Thursday.
– Dangerous and inappropriate
Woodward’s book is based on 18 interviews with Trump in the period from December 5 of last year to July 21 of this year.
The award-winning journalist, known for exposing the Watergate scandal, has also conducted a series of background interviews with people who have worked closely with Trump.

Several of them give very negative characteristics of Trump. Among them is former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who calls Trump “dangerous” and “inappropriate” for president.
Another is former US intelligence chief Dan Coats, who still believes Vladimir Putin must have something on Trump, even though there is no intelligence to back him up. The reason is that Coats has no other explanation for why Trump behaves the way he does, according to Woodward.
