The German ambassador has been called to the carpet in protest.
The Russians claim that they are exposed to unfounded accusations in connection with the poisoning of Alexei Navalny. At the same time, the country warns that diplomatic relations with Germany could be compromised.
Ambassador Geza Andreas von Geyr was notified on Wednesday of a protest against “baseless accusations and ultimatums against Russia,” the Foreign Ministry in Moscow said in a statement.

It is obvious that the German authorities are using the Navalny situation as a pretext to discredit Russia, says the Foreign Ministry.

Russia reiterates that Berlin must respond to Russian prosecutors’ demands for access to evidence, including medical information, which led Germany to establish that Navalny had been poisoned by the neurotoxin Novitshok. Navalny is a well-known opponent and one of the fiercest critics of President Vladimir Putin.
If the material is not delivered, it will be perceived as a “serious hostile provocation” that will be “fraught with consequences for Russian-German relations, as well as a serious complication of the international situation,” says the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Navalny, a 44-year-old lawyer, corruption hunter and leader of the opposition, became seriously ill on a trip to Siberia in August. He was evacuated to Berlin for treatment and this week he was brought out of an artificial coma.
