Boris Johnson held a press conference on Wednesday about the severe austerity measures now being taken to prevent corona infection in England.
Eight new crown-related deaths were reported in the UK on Wednesday. At the same time, another 2,659 have tested positive for the virus and the trend is an increasing spread, especially among people in their 20s. At the press conference, a graph is presented showing a strong increase in infection in the age group 20-29 years.
– From the charts, it is quite clear that we must act now. Remember the basic infection control tips on hand washing, bandaging and distance, Johnson says, before introducing the new guidelines that came out through the media Tuesday night.
Then it became clear that England will ban gatherings of more than six people from Monday next week. The ban applies to everything from private homes and parks to pubs.
– Now we make it easier for people to understand the rules and for the police to get an overview and act. That is why we are introducing “rule 6”, and if you do not follow it, you are breaking the law, says the Prime Minister.

Those who break the rule will be fined 100 pounds, equivalent to 1200 Norwegian crowns. However, this is only the first time they have been taken. If you are caught breaking the ban repeatedly, the fine doubles every time, up to 3,200 pounds, or almost 40,000 NOK.
– I am sorry that we have to introduce this rule, but we must prevent the spread of infection and save lives. So, of course, we’ll go ahead and remove the ban again when it’s justifiable, Johnson says.
The hardening comes after warnings from health authorities that the infection is still spreading, especially among the very young. More than 20 people per 100,000 are now infected in England, writes Sky News.
The exceptions that will grant exemption from the rule are if more than six people belong to the same household or come together in relation to work and education. Weddings, funerals, and organized sports will also be exempt from the rule.

The number of new cases of infection per day has increased considerably in the UK. On Sunday and Monday, the increase was nearly 3,000 a day, double what just a week ago. On Tuesday, 2,420 new cases of infection were registered. The deaths have exceeded 41,000 crown-related deaths.
A study released in mid-August showed that six percent of England’s population, equivalent to 3.4 million people, was likely infected with the coronavirus. Health authorities have detected the infection in just under 314,000 Britons, but probably more than ten times as many have had the virus in their bodies in England alone, according to a study conducted at Imperial College.
The university researchers had taken samples from 100,000 randomly selected volunteers and found that a large proportion of them had antibodies to COVID-19 in their bodies, a sign that they had been infected. The survey was completed in late June and showed that London had the highest proportion of infected at 13 percent.
