AstraZeneca’s corona vaccine is in the final stages of testing. An AstraZeneca spokesperson described the break as “a standard routine to follow when a potentially unexplained disease is detected in a test.”

“In large studies, diseases will occur by chance, but they must be independently assessed in order to be carefully controlled,” a company spokesman told the Financial Times.

The spokesperson further says that the case will be investigated as soon as possible so as not to delay the study any longer than necessary.

The vaccine is being tested in Phase 3 in the United States and in Phases 2 and 3 in the United Kingdom, Brazil, and South Africa.

AstraZeneca is considered one of the main candidates to develop a covid-19 vaccine, and the European Commission has signed an agreement with the pharmaceutical company.

The cooperation will also apply to Norway, the government declared in mid-August.

It is not known who stopped the tests, whether it was AstraZeneca itself or a regulatory body.
