– How can you live in Norway without realizing that you are not kissing, caressing and hugging in the middle of a pandemic? One may wonder if this is an example of the integration problems we have in Norway, asks Listhaug.

He is now calling for the Islamic Council of Norway to play a greater role in obtaining the necessary information for Muslim congregations.
– I’m amazed that the Islamic Council spends its time trying to restrict freedom of speech in Norway, rather than getting information about the corona pandemic. It is more important to communicate now with information about the corona pandemic than to want to restrict freedom of expression.
– Islamic Council, which is an organization that receives state support, I have the expectation that it will use its channels to reach out.
– Are you not now involved in stigmatizing an entire group?
– We know that there are many in Norway who know a very poor Norwegian. And it may seem like a lot of these don’t really follow what’s going on in society, but we need to reach out to all groups after this outbreak.

– The Progress Party has been clear when it comes to home games, that we would prefer to have longer service times. We believe that the parties at home should not have been organized and that the solution is for the clubs to return to their normal service hours.

– But in this case, it just seems that the message has not been reached. We saw in Oslo, in an early phase of the corona pandemic, that many did not receive the advice that they were given.

– I hope that the Islamic Council and the health authorities sit down now and find a way for the information to better reach these groups. It has enormous consequences, having so many in quarantine and so many sick, Listhaug responds.

The online newspaper has confronted the Islamic Council with Listhaug’s accusations. Information officer Mustafa Mahmood at the Islamic Council in a letter in an email to Nettavisen that the infection also occurs among non-Muslims. The coronavirus affects all social groups and cultures.
– It may seem that Sylvi Listhaug is only concerned with using the pandemic to put Norwegian Muslims in a bad position. If Listhaug is genuinely concerned about integration, she should understand that her rhetoric contributes to the opposite of an inclusive Norwegian work and social life, Mahmood writes.

He also has little understanding of Listhaug’s statement that the Islamic Council would prefer to restrict freedom of expression, rather than give information about the crown pandemic to its members.
– At the beginning of the pandemic, the Islamic Council of Norway has been proactive and concerned about reaching Norwegian Muslims with information about the corona pandemic. We have produced informational brochures and have sought out minority communities. The mosques closed on their own initiative, before the authorities adopted a “closure”.
– We believe that Norwegian Muslims and the Norwegian Muslim religious community have contributed in a nice way to this joint charity event. Isolated incidents with outbreaks are, of course, unfortunate, but that doesn’t mean we can all go under the same hair, writes Mahmood.
– Both a serious illness
He also emphasizes that the Islamic Council does not recognize itself in describing that it wants to restrict freedom of expression in Norway.
– Unlike Sylvi Listhaug, IRN manages to have two thoughts in his head at the same time. Yes, it is important to fight the pandemic. But it is equally important to fight against Nazism and racism in Norway. Because both are a serious disease that can tear a society apart, says Mahmood.
She refers to previous statements by Listhaug, where she has said that the Sian organization has every right to express its opinions.
When asked by Nettavisen about the great ignorance among Muslims about infection control rules, Mahmood responds that this is a bit like asking: Is there a great ignorance among men about infection control rules? Or between people who go to cave parties or have big house parties without keeping enough distance?
