A total of four people are exposed, Operations Director Tatjana Knappen in the West Police District tells NTB.

– There are two people who have been in the room, that is, directly exposed, and there are two who have been in connection with this room, he says.

It was at 2.30 p.m. when the police received a message from the Sotra company in the Øygarden municipality about the postal item containing white powder.

The company is said to have acted quickly and called the police, says Trym Jacobsen, Hoyland Offshore general manager for NRK.

– We isolate the room and evacuate people, says Jacobsen.

Receive in the mail

It was the Sartor Shipping company that received the letter with the powder. Hoyland Offshore is a subsidiary of Sartor Shipping and operates the ship “Ocean Viking”.

– It is an unpleasant situation for everyone involved. We’ve been taking it easy so far, and we hope this doesn’t have serious consequences, says Jacobsen.

Bergensavisen was the first to report the incident.

– Directed to “Ocean Viking”

According to Jacobsen, the letter was addressed to the Ocean Viking freighter. The ship has picked up migrants in the Mediterranean and is currently operated by the French aid organization SOS Méditerranée.

– It is obvious to link the letter to an operation that the ship has had in the Mediterranean, he says.

This summer, the ship left for Sicily after an emergency on board. Then 180 migrants were allowed to disembark.

– There was nothing special about the letter other than that the address was misspelled, says Jacobsen.

The company has never received threats before, says Jacobsen.

Police at the scene say it is too early to say what the reason for the letter is and will not confirm whether the letter was addressed to the freighter.

Group bombs in place tonight

All the people are outside the corresponding office building. The police bomb squad will be in place around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

The police have opened an investigative case and will also carry out interviews with witnesses and interrogations of those who have been exposed.

Isolated person in hospital

One person has been rushed to the hospital, CEO Jacobsen tells NRK.

– There are some employees who are exposed to varying degrees, and the health staff concluded taking one to the hospital for observation and isolation, says Jacobsen.

The person should have no symptoms.

– It is very unpleasant for someone to resort to such things, says Jacobsen.
