The police were notified of the diversion in Rallarvegen at 03.18. The accident occurred near the Myrdal station on the Bergen line in Aurland. How injured they are is not known, but two were airlifted to the hospital in Bergen and one to the hospital in Lærdal.

The accident occurred in connection with a facility where Mesta is building a snow superstructure for Bane Nor. But the diversion took place outside the construction area after a union meeting.

– Helped collaborators

Mesta states in a press release that the three involved are a Mesta employee, a contracted installer and a representative of the Norwegian Workers’ Union (NAF).

– Plant workers were called in to help. They went to great lengths to clear the ground to bring the wounded to Rallarvegen and care for them until health personnel arrived in town, says Mesta communications manager Eskil Sand.

Will visit workers

He states that the occupational health service and the lease in Mest will visit the workers on Tuesday night to learn about the incident.

The three were on their way to Vatnahalsen, where they would spend the night in a barracks, says operations leader Frode Kolltveit in the West police district. The three drove through Rallarvegen, which is an old construction road that runs along the Bergen line in this area. The road is a very popular bike path in summer.

Great rescue operation

A major rescue operation was quickly launched, involving six people from the Red Cross, rescue helicopters, and fire and ambulance crews.

It must be very steep in the area and difficult to access. Therefore, the Red Cross was notified, since it has vehicles that facilitate access.

– The cause of the accident is unknown until now. There is no information indicating the influence of alcohol or anything else, states Kolltveit.

Everyone was aware

The three are all men between 30, 40 and 60 years old.

– We have been told that all three were awake and conscious, but had suffered different types of injuries. We do not know what type of injuries the individual has received.

Kolltveit claims that the UTV was registered for four people.

Mesta has worked for four years to replace old snow superstructures on the Bergen line on behalf of Bane Nor. Those involved in the night’s crash are working on the construction of a new 275-meter-long superstructure at Kleven, east of Myrdal station.

– High mountain work is mainly carried out at night when there are few trains. On occasions, there was also a work day that did not require access to the road. Construction work will begin each quarter of the year in April and will be completed in late October / early November, explains Sand.

RALLARVEGEN: The accident is said to have occurred in Rallarvegen southeast of Seltuftvatnet between the Kleven bridge and Myrdal station.
