Commentators and Republicans believe the demonstrations and devastation could contribute to a landslide for President Donald Trump.
NEW YORK (Nettavisen): Both President Donald Trump and Joe Biden are actively using the demonstrations and violence that are taking place in various places in the United States as part of the election campaign.
Trump is trying to convince voters that the protesters and those behind the destruction are Democrats, while Biden, for his part, condemns the violence, noting that Trump is fueling the mood and contributing to escalating protests and violence.

Biden: – Looting is not protests
– The riots are not protests. Looting is not protest. It is anarchy, simple and direct. And those who do will be prosecuted, says an election video Biden released recently. The video shows, among other things, burned cars and buildings across the United States.
– It’s burning and we have a president inflating the flames. You cannot stop the violence because you have supported it for years, Biden says in the video.

The video, called “Do not be afraid”, is part of a campaign in which Biden now spends 45 million dollars, just over 400 million Norwegian crowns, on social networks and on television in the states of Arizona, Florida , Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada. North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Trump, for his part, on Monday retweeted a video that his son Donald Trump Jr. posted on Twitter this weekend.
“Joe Biden supporters are destroying communities across America,” wrote Trump Jr. who tagged the video with #BidenRiots.
On Sunday, the president also shared a video showing images of flames trapping both of his legs during a rally in Portland this weekend. In the video the man can be seen running across the street, while the music “Footlose” plays in the background.
– These are the “peaceful demonstrations” of the Democrats. Sick! writes Trump.
Trump also often points out that cities experiencing an increase in violence are run by Democrats.
Republican commentator Star Parker at the Center for Urban Renewal and Education tells Fox News that she believes the riots and demonstration in the United States could lead to a clear victory for Trump in November.
“I think they are helping to ensure that there is a landslide election victory for Donald Trump,” Star Parker said.

– It may even win the one state that Ronald Reagan never got after the last fight we had with this kind of anti-American sentiment. We are talking about all these organizations now, these peaceful protesters using the same tactics as the KKK: threats, fear, what’s next? Parker asks.
The commentator also believes that the chaos will continue until Election Day.
– The pandemic is a lost cause for Trump
– Trump focuses on law and order because the pandemic is a lost cause for him. He has left it behind and pretends the health crisis is over, writes Hilmar Mjelde, a senior researcher at the NORCE research institute, in a comment to Nettavisen.
“Trump says that only he can take control of the chaos, although in the last three or four years he has caused more chaos overall than any other president in US history,” says Mjelde.

He points out that Nixon in 1968 and Bush in 1988 won with a law-and-order strategy, and that voters tend to trust Republicans more on this issue.

Right-wingers have exaggerated violence
The American expert says it is important to emphasize that the entire United States is not a solid crime scene.
– The left-wing media have underestimated the violence and the right-wing media have exaggerated it, writes Mjelde.
– Law and order are both a state and national responsibility. In places where there is more violence and unrest, we see that public authority has collapsed. Local authorities may or may not take full responsibility. Partly due to political cowardice. Trump, for his part, is breathing fire with his rhetoric. And then the armed civil protection groups enter the scene. The state monopoly on violence, which is the very definition of a state, is not total in the United States because of gun laws, Mjelde tells Nettavisen.

According to CNN, several of the protesters have thrown several firebombs at the police and one of them has set fire to one of the people who were in the area.

More than 10,600 demonstrations in the United States
According to the company ACLED, which specializes in collecting data on conflicts, between May 24 and August 22 of this year, there were more than 10,600 demonstrations throughout the United States. 95 percent of them were peaceful, while fewer than 570 of them, about 5 percent, had violent episodes. Of these, 7,750 were affiliated with the BLM movement at more than 2,440 locations in all 50 states and Washington, DC.
According to figures from the NY Times in early July this year, between 15 and 26 million people in the United States had participated in demonstrations over the deaths of George Floyd and others in the weeks leading up to July 3. At the end of June this year, more than 14,000 people were arrested across the United States after all the riots, according to Wikipedia. In the two weeks after George Floyd’s death alone, more than 10,000 people were arrested.
