Manchester City confirm that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte tested positive for Covid-19.

Both players are currently isolated under the Premier League and UK quarantine protocol, the club writes on its website.

Neither player knows symptoms, writes Manchester City.

The Premier League starts again on Saturday, but Guardiola’s team will have to wait until September 21 to play the league again, due to the club’s participation in the Champions League in August.

Mahrez and Laporte are now unsure for the first Premier League game of the season against Wolverhampton, writes the Daily Mail.

The positive tests at Manchester City are likely to be of concern to the Premier League leadership just five days before the start of the new season.

Not at the national team meeting

– Everyone at the club wants Riyad and Aymeric to improve quickly before their return to training and the new season, Manchester City write on their websites.

Neither Laporte nor Mahrez have participated in national team meetings with their respective countries of origin, as Laporte was not included in the French team and Mahrez’s Algeria does not play any games.

Manchester City finished second in the Premier League last season and are now preparing to fight back after a somewhat disappointing 2019/20 season.

In the Champions League they came to Lyon in the quarterfinals, while in the League Cup there was jubilation by beating Aston Villa in the final.
