Former Premier League players disagree with Liverpool’s alleged midfield changes.
Georginio Wijnaldum is in his final year of contract at Liverpool, and now several credible sources are reporting that Barcelona are looking for the Dutchman.
Fabrizio Romano, who works for Sky Italia and The Guardian, says the La Liga club has already contacted the player’s agent and will likely make an offer soon.
At the same time, Liverpool will be linked with Thiago Alcantara of Bayern Munich, and the Spanish national team player has been designated as Wijnaldum’s direct replacement.

Sky Bet has now set the odds of Wijnaldum playing for Barcelona when the transfer window closes at just 1.20.
– A great loss for Liverpool
At English Talksport, former Premier League players Darren Ambrose and Darren Bent Liverpool are now discussing the alleged trade.
– I think it’s a great loss for Liverpool. He played every but one Premier League game last season. People talk about Firmino by clicking at the top – Wijnaldum makes it click in the middle as I see it. It’s him and Henderson, says Ambrose.
– It’s a good transition for him to go to Barcelona, but a great loss for Liverpool, says Ambrose, who has a past at Newcastle and Crystal Palace.
Darren Bent, for his part, believes Thiago will go direct and fill the possible void behind Wijnaldum in Liverpool’s midfield.
– I like Wijnaldum a lot, but if they replace him by Thiago, then I like him. I mean it is a step forward. What I don’t understand is why it takes so long. I don’t understand why there aren’t more clubs after Thiago. Every time he plays, I’m very impressed, says Bent.

However, Ambrose remains firm and believes that it will take time for Thiago to settle in at Anfield, while in Wijnaldum Liverpool know what they are achieving.
– Personally, I think it is not a step forward. I think it’s a step to the side, max. Thiago must now step in and immediately fit into a champion team. They have a player in the position who has shown what he is good at. I don’t understand why they do it, says Ambrose.
