One person died and seven were injured after being stabbed in the center of the English city of Birmingham on Sunday night.
Two of the injured, a man and a woman, are seriously injured. The five remaining wounded will be out of danger.

– I kept stuck
On Sunday afternoon, a witness talks about what he went through on Sunday night. Bareier Savvas Sfrantziz, who saw one of the stabbings, recounts dramatic scenes.
– The stabbing occurred when a black man with a knife approached a woman. She screamed out loud that she had been stabbed. After she screamed, the man continued to stab her, says Sfrantziz.
It describes the perpetrator as a 20 to 25-year-old black male, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and a black cap.
– He didn’t fight her, he didn’t hit her, he just kept stabbing her in the neck. Seven times I saw it clearly, says the owner of the bar.

Bloody man
Sfrantziz could also see a man covered in blood.
– We started screaming. Suddenly we saw another who was also stung. A man was in the middle of the road, says Sfrantziz, who believes the man was stabbed first.

– I saw the woman being stabbed, but she must have stabbed the man earlier. Because when he stabbed her, the man got away. So he must have stabbed the man first, says Sfrantziz.
For Sky News, Sfrantziz has estimated that he was only 20 meters away when the woman was attacked.
– The woman was unconscious, while the man yelled “he stabbed me” and cursed the attacker. “It all happened in seconds,” Sfrantziz told Sky News.

Homicide investigation
The first reports of the stabbing reached the police about half an hour after midnight.
The police see all the stabbings, which took place between 00:30 and 02:20, in connection with each other.
The background to the incident is not yet known, but the injured appear as random victims. The police have launched a homicide investigation and are intensively searching for the perpetrator.
