One person was pronounced dead after falling down a slope in Ringerike on Saturday night, the Southeast Police District writes on Twitter.
The deceased is a man in his 20s and is said to have been traveling with several friends when the incident occurred, according to Ringerikes Blad. At around 11:30 pm, the tour group called the police after losing their friend.
– There were 11 people on tour. They were sitting around a campfire when someone discovered that one of them was missing. The investigation shows it has fallen 15 to 20 meters, says Operations Director Ole Kamben in the southeast Dagbladet police district Sunday morning.
– Probably the man went to urinate and fell down a steep slope or ravine. An accident, simply put, said operations manager Marianne Mørch in the southeastern Ringerikes Blad police district last night.
The incident took place in the Mørkgonga Nature Reserve, which is a popular hiking destination. The last part of the trip goes through a steep gorge.
– While the comrades have us on the line, they find the missing person, says Mørch.
A Seaking helicopter was ordered to arrive at the scene, but the man’s life could not be saved. The police are in the process of notifying his relatives.
The deceased worked and lived in eastern Norway. He was a foreign national and police have not received any comment early Sunday morning that relatives have been notified.
Several of the other tour participants were also foreigners, who were not known locally in the popular and somewhat demanding hiking area.
