– Nearest national outbreak

More than 1,100 people have been quarantined after an infection broke out during a Christmas celebration in Østfold. Nearly 200 have been confirmed to be infected.

At the Norwegian School of Management (NHH) in Bergen, 117 people are also infected with corona.

Also, there are a number of other local outbreaks across the country.

– I think the situation in Østfold is serious, but the local authorities have reasonably good control, says health director Bjørn Guldvog to TV 2 Nyheten.

– Easy to lose control

– But it is very easy for an infection of this type to get out of control, that is why it is important that all those involved have good contact with the municipality, Guldvog tells the channel.

Since September 1, 312 new cases of corona have been reported in the country, according to the Infectious Disease Notification System (MSIS).

In recent weeks, there have been between 356 and 374 new cases of infection per week, according to the weekly report from the National Institute of Public Health.

Closer to a major outbreak

Guldvog further says that the more outbreaks there are, the greater the risk of a national outbreak.

– At the moment, it is true that these outbreaks are under reasonable control, but the more we have and the more widespread it becomes, the closer we are to a larger outbreak, says Guldvog.

– It’s a great job to handle this situation, he says.

– some control

The municipal head of Sarpsborg municipality writes in a press release late Saturday that they have “some control” over the outbreak in Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad.

Almost 200 people are now infected, following the celebration at the Al-Ghadir Islamic Center this weekend.

– We have not yet finished tracking the infection, but so far everything indicates that the vast majority of new cases can be seen in connection with the large outbreak that is occurring, writes municipal chief physician Siri Brelin in the press release.

The good thing about this is that the infection does not appear to have spread outside of the environment. Therefore, we believe that we still have some control over the outbreak, write more.

– Urolig

Health Minister Bent Høie said in Dagsrevyen on Saturday night that he is concerned.

– We are concerned about the increasing number of infections, says the Minister of Health in Dagsrevyen.

In an email to Dagbladet, Høie writes that the municipalities are in control.

– Currently, the municipalities have control at the local level. We are closely monitoring the situation and the government will take a position in the coming weeks on the way forward. It’s important for all of us to be aware of helping to prevent the spread of infection now – keep your distance, wash your hands, and be home and test for symptoms, Høie writes.
