In Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg, approximately 1,100 people in schools, kindergartens and health institutions are in quarantine, after the local outbreak.

The case is being updated.

In the last week, outbreaks have occurred in Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad.

VG has previously mentioned that a Christmas celebration may have caused more than 100 cases of infection. The religious community of the Al-Ghadir Islamic Center in Østfold held a celebration for several days starting on August 21, when the corona infection began to spread.

– I was very surprised when they informed us about the infection. But we stopped the celebration immediately and wanted to help ensure that everyone with the infection can be traced, Sadiq Baker Alezairjawi, head of the religious community, stated in a press release earlier.

VG has been in contact with Alezairjawi on Saturday. He does not wish to comment further on the matter.

114 cases in a week

By Thursday night, it was clear that more than 100 people in Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg had been confirmed infected, and municipalities suspected that all of them could be related to the celebration.

On Saturday, more than 500 people are in quarantine in Sarpsborg alone and 600 in Fredrikstad.

The total number of cases of infection in the municipality is 114 in the last week, writes the municipality of Fredrikstad in a press release.

– This is a summary of yesterday’s state. We are still waiting for today’s infection figures, Fredrikstad municipality communications manager Martin Schjøllert Fredheim tells VG on Saturday.

The municipality updates the quarantine status on its website.

The GBV figures may be somewhat different as the statistics are based on the figures reported by municipalities, but show a clear increase in infection:
