Edvald Boasson Hagen – Hit the finish line

Edvald Boasson Hagen sat in a good position for a long time, but had to be beaten at the finish line by Belgian Wout Van Aert in the sprint of the seventh stage of this year’s Tour de France. It was second place for the Norwegian.

Edvald Boasson Hagen was the only Norwegian who sat on the main field until the end, and he was incredibly close to his first stage win since 2017. The Norwegian took command and opened the sprint early.

In the end, he was clearly defeated by Van Aert. Boasson Hagen was frustrated on the board when he entered the goal as number two.

– When you are so close to a victory, of course it is bitter. But the team did a very good job for me. It was a shame I didn’t get a bit more done in the end, but it was a long question. I just had to open it, Boasson Hagen told TV 2.

– Of course I could have opened the sprint a few meters later, but the speed dropped a lot and I really just had to continue with the speed I had. I’m quite happy with the pressure today so we can keep working, continued the Norwegian.

Bora’s team was led by Peter Sagan, who took over the green dot jersey when he finished second in the sprint.

– Some corridors were expected to break from the start, but not a whole team would, said TV 2 commentator Christian Paasche.

Alexander Kristoff and the other pure sprinters were played outside of Bora’s attack. Kristoff escaped early, and was in the back group that after a quarter of a stage had already raced for five minutes.

Drama

At the end of the stage, it was dramatic again when the crosswind hit. The Ineos team took advantage of that and set the pace. The already reduced main field was divided, and several candidates in the brief were among those who finished behind the division.

Tadej Pogacar, Richie Porte, Bauke Mollema, Mikel Landa and Esteban Chaves were among the combined runners who fell. Edvald Boasson Hagen, however, remained in the main field, both when Bora’s team drove early on and when the Ineos team took advantage of the crosswind.

Adam Yates kept his cool as he faced Adam’s shirt.
