STAYS IN NORWAY: A mistake at concerts in Germany and England, combined with the crown sprout, broke one of the companies of Chris Collings (left) and Thomas Borgvang, but the operation of their Norwegian company continues as before. Photo: Terje Bringedal

This week, the bankruptcy proceedings of Nordic Beats AS, sister company of the producers of the giant parties “We Love The 90’s”, were filed.

However, it will not affect the company’s customers or upcoming events in Norway, CEO and half-owner Chris Collings tells VG.

– No, this does not affect any customer and has nothing to do with the “We Love The 90’s” program in Norway. This only affects a negative result after one concert in Germany in November 2019 and five concerts in the UK in December 2019, says Collings.

Last year, he and his partner Thomas Borgvang produced 22 shows in nine different countries. For the past nine years, they have mostly filled Telenor Arena in Fornebu with their shows.

– It’s a shame that it hasn’t gone so well in all countries, but that’s what it’s like to be a concert organizer. For our part, there will be no investment in Germany or the UK immediately. We prefer to focus on countries that deliver positive results, including the Czech Republic and Austria. Norway is and will be our most important territory, he says.

Nordic Beats AS is an under-utilization of Nordic Beats Group AS. Chris Collings claims that Nordic Beats Group AS established several subsidiaries to differentiate operations in different countries. One of the subsidiaries is Nordic Beats Norway AS, which runs Norwegian shows, including “We Love The 90’s”. This company is not in danger of bankruptcy, according to Collings.

– Nordic Beats AS operated the shows in Germany, UK and Sweden. Two of the UK concerts were positive, but unfortunately the loss of the other three resulted in a negative result. We had several thousand viewers at each show in both Germany and the UK, but these are expensive shows with a relatively high “breakeven point”, Collings notes.

– The hope was that three shows scheduled in Sweden in April 2020 would lead to a positive result again. Unfortunately, these three shows were canceled due to Covid-19, which means there is no future operation or revenue at Nordic Beats AS. Therefore, we saw no alternative but to report a strike for this company, he says.

Due to Covid-19, the “We Love The 90’s” program planned for this year in Norway was moved from April to November. Chris Collings is not sure if it can be implemented.

– We are now awaiting updates from the authorities if we are allowed to hold the event in November 2020. Approx. 10,000 tickets, and we doubt this can be done this year. In that case, we will move the event to fall 2021. Customers can then choose again between keeping their ticket or a refund. We must get back to this after authorities issue clear guidelines for the next few months, he says.

“We Love The 90s” specializes in the pop greats of this decade and should have its 10th anniversary in 2020 with artists such as Aqua, Coolio, Scooter, E-Type, Vengaboys and Faithless’s Maxi Jazz.
