The grade point average for students graduating from high school increased greatly this year compared to last year. Canceled exams are part of the explanation.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, average grades in 41 of 46 common subjects increased compared to last year. Overall, the average grade increased from 4.1 last year to 4.2 this year in these subjects.
– Although the increase in each individual subject is not that great, it is unusual for grades to increase in so many subjects at the same time, says Minister of Education and Integration Guri Melby (V).
Melby says the canceled exams and therefore a better time to set up a position assessment may have contributed to this year’s numbers differing from previous years.
