This was stated by the operating company Hedmark IKT in a press release late Tuesday.
Hedmark ICT operates the IT systems in the municipalities of Hamar, Stange, Kongsvinger, Sør-Odal, Løten, Nord-Odal and Grue in Innlandet county.
The attack became known Tuesday night, just hours after it became clear that the Storting had been the subject of a comprehensive cyber attack.
– Emails have been sent to our employees with attachments containing viruses. Emails are disguised as emails from colleagues, says CEO Edvard Lysne at Hedmark ICT to NRK.
Describe the situation as serious. To limit the extent of the damage, the IT company has chosen to stop all incoming emails.
The extension is unknown
Multiple employees are said to have opened the attachment, but Hedmark ICT does not yet have an overview of how many.
– We are now working with crisis management and technical expertise to map out the scope and limit further damage, Lysne says.
It is not yet known if the sensitive information has gone astray.
The attack was discovered by an operations department employee who came across a series of emails that he perceived as suspicious.
The National Security Authority (NSM) has been notified of the attack. It was VG who mentioned the case for the first time.
You must check the sender
Employees are told not to open attachments that they receive or have received in their municipal email. This also applies to emails you receive from your own colleagues, until further notice.
The sender appears to belong to the organization, and the subject of the email will be something employees can normally expect from the sender, according to Hedmark IKT.
– The only way to be absolutely sure that an email is secure is to check the email address of the sender. It may say “Irene Haugen” as the sender, but if you click on the name, the address is “[email protected]”, indicates the ICT provider.
