Torbjørn Trondsen (71), a member of the Labor Party, says he cannot be a member of a party where “… there is a continuous landslide inside …”.

After 42 years in the Labor Party, Torbjørn Trondsen (71) has resigned. He believes that the party has become something more under Jonas Gahr Støre.

– Originally, this was a party for the broad movement of fishermen, workers and farmers. Today, the match has become more and more of a race, where AUF has gained an increasingly dominant role. It’s about fighting for positions and roles, he tells Nordlys.

Trondsen tells the newspaper that he has tried to get the Labor Party to focus again on coastal and fisheries policy, issues that have traditionally been important to large groups of voters. He believes that it is the shipping companies and the aquaculture industry that have been allowed to rule under Støre, and that the party leader has said, “Well, that’s how you want it.”

In an email sent to the party office, he writes that he cannot be a member of an organization «… where there is continuous confusion within without mutual respect and camaraderie with the constituencies of voters that have formed the base of the party, while politics is largely controlled by strong interest groups within and outside the party closely linked to the leadership. ‘

After this weekend’s meeting in Trøndelag Labor, Trondsen wrote on Facebook that “The People’s Party will be a cult” and referred to Nordlys’ article on the dispute in Trøndelag Labor this weekend.

Trondsen is not the first in Troms to leave the Labor Party. On Sunday, Nordlys wrote that former Labor mayor Hugo Bjørnstad resigned from the party. It was because of the Giske case.
