The dolls are called “LOL Surprise!”. They are intended for children from 5 to 8 years old.
Now one of the largest online toy stores in Norway has decided to stop selling.
This is because they change in appearance if placed in cold water. And what happens is not very kid-friendly:
Handcuffs, tattoos and daring clothes appear on the wrists when cold water falls on them.
– It’s shocking that they do something so clearly sexualized.
This is what CEO Andreas Skalleberg says in Lekekassen. He first spoke to Agderposten about this case.
– This was not something we knew until we saw it on social media. Then we thought it was just to get it off the market.
Parents rage
It was TV 2 that first brought up the case of not-so-kid-friendly outfits on the dolls.
The case came after several parents on social media revealed what happens when dolls pour water on them.
One of them is the American Hillary Williams.
In a video on Facebook, he shows how the dolls change clothes when placed in ice water.
The video has about 250,000 views.
Lies flat
The Norwegian MGA agent apologizes for the incident.
– They have found a handful of dolls that can be said to have outfits that can be perceived as offensive, says Tom Henning Norderud at Amo Toys for NRK.
They realized the mistake last week.
– We take this very seriously and we still want the LOL universe to be exciting and safe for everyone.
All who have bought these dolls are offered new ones.
