Since Friday, 43 NHH students have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease. 19 of them have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. A total of 58 people studying at school are infected.

The school now closes all physical education through Friday, September 11, inclusive, and today students can be tested at school.

– We want to contribute even more to making all employees and students feel safe. Furthermore, it will create a clear and manageable situation, says Rector Øystein Thøgersen, continuing:

– Although it’s scary, we just have to straighten up and do everything in our power to normalize the situation as soon as possible, he says.

Encourage quarantine

A total of 66 new cases of covid-19 have been registered in Bergen. All those infected are between 19 and 27 years old.

On Monday, the lease in the Bergen municipality came with an update on the status of the infection. They take current infection rates seriously and are now taking steps to overcome the outbreak.

– In consultation with the National Institute of Public Health, today we will encourage all students who have been to a party or other similar gatherings where infection control has not been performed, to undergo a self-imposed quarantine for ten days from the moment you were at the party, says Councilor Roger. Valhammer (Labor Party) during Monday’s press conference.

The goal is to get an overview of the outbreak and prevent the spread of the infection so that the outbreak can be stopped.

The Councilor for Health, Beate Husa, said that the municipality sees the situation as a single outbreak, where students from different schools have been to the same parties.

He reiterated that the invitation applies to all students in Bergen who have been to student parties.

At 2pm, Councilor Roger Valhammer, Health Councilor Beate Husa, Medical Director Trond Egil Hansen and Infection Control Doctor Karina Koller Løland give the latest news.

Does not apply to closed campus

The coronavirus also has consequences for schools in other parts of the country. In Hamar, 18 people connected to a school have been confirmed to be infected. In Kristiansand, up to 180 people from different schools have been quarantined after a family was diagnosed with COVID-19.

At NHH, the school administration will not close the campus, for example.

– NHH leadership has had discussions with the infection control office in the municipality of Bergen, which in turn has consulted with the National Institute of Public Health, says communications director Geir Mikalsen at NHH.

Today, the Bergen Emergency Room will also be installed at the school so that students can take the corona test.

– It will be possible to take a quick and free corona test, write to the school to the students.

Mikalsen hopes that students will feel more confident after these measures are introduced.

– All teaching is also available digitally if someone doesn’t want to go to the conference, he says.

Restless students

On Friday, it became clear that the NHHS student association decided to shut down all activities until further notice. Until then, the sports team had done the admissions when several dozen students had gathered.

NHHS tenant Marthe-Caroline Dahle told NRK that she has our strict infection control measures tied to the recording. She believes that the first week of litter was important.

– The infection does not necessarily come from student associations, but rather from students interacting between groups. Now we put on the brakes so hopefully we don’t have a big blowout, Dahle said Friday.

On Monday, the leader says she believes what is happening at the school is scary.

– This is sad and scary. We do not know where the infection occurred, the students are very restless. Now suddenly we have it in our own backyard, says the leader.

– We are not going to celebrate at NHH this semester, he adds.

When asked why so many are infected at NHH compared to other educational institutions, Mikalsen answers the following:

– It’s hard to tell, but we know that clearly there has been infection in some settings and then one infection has another. It has led to a huge boom, he says.

The infection increases in more people

On Monday, the University of Bergen also confirmed to BA that two new students have been diagnosed with the infection. Therefore, a total of eleven at the university tested positive for COVID-19.

At the BI campus in Bergen, there has been a new case and the school has had a total of four infections. 20 students are now in quarantine, according to the school pages. The Høgskulen på Vestlandet campus in Bergen has so far 26 infections.

No city has more infection in the study environment than Bergen. On Friday, the director of infection control, Karina Koller Løland, estimated in the speech that around 400 are or have been quarantined as a result of the infection outbreak among students.

Koller Løland tells NRK that he is unaware that the study institutions have common guidelines or procedures for infection control.

She thinks it’s important not to make too big of a move.

– We do not usually recommend people to cancel events if it is not necessary. One must consider the whole, she says.
