Nightmare start in Lars Arne Nilsen’s rescue project in Aalesund

Lars Arne Nilsen did not have a dream start as Aalesund coach. Isaac Twum secured a 1-0 win for Start.

Home – Aalesund 1–0

Twuun assured the yellow jerseys a well deserved victory under the sun in Kristiansand. The decision fell on a corner kick after a scant half an hour played, largely thanks to poor communication between Aalesund goalkeeper Andreas Lie and a defensive colleague.

With that, Lars Arne Nilsen has to look forward to his first win as Aalesund coach. The 56-year-old was fired in Brann in early August and recently replaced Lars Bohinen in Sunnmøre.

The victory means that the Southerners overtook Mjøndalen, who lost 1-6 on the road to Odd. It is true that the brown shirts have played one game less.

Aalesund remains clear last in the Eliteserien and remains with seven points after 16 games. Start has gained 15 points and is the point ahead of Mjøndalen.

Communication error

Eirik Schulze should have sent Start in the lead after just seven minutes. In a corner kick, the mandalita received the ball in the back post, but the shot ended in the crossbar.

Aalesund could well have been left behind when Kasper Skaanes was allowed to shoot free from eleven meters. Fortunately for the home crowd, the goalkeeper made the save.

The score was going to come to the end for the Southerners. AaFK goalkeeper Andreas Lie was about to score a corner kick, but instead a teammate further stunned the ball, giving Isaac Twum an easy job of making it 1-0 at the rear post.

Dangerous Skaanes ahead

Five minutes after the change of sides, Skaanes was dangerously ahead again. Despite the Bergen native hitting a good shot from an acute angle, goalkeeper Lie was in the notes and avoided new insights from the net.

Niklas Castro made a good effort to push his way down the right, but the home team’s left defense cleared the ball for a corner. The shot from eleven meters, however, was blocked by Jesper Daland. Soon after, starting goalkeeper Jonas Deumeland avoided a header from Sigurd Haugen.

Twuun’s online acquaintance became the only match, and with that Start was able to unleash the jubilation for the third win of the season.

Aalesund’s next game is at home against Sarpsborg on September 13. So Start has no fights. The following week, Kristiansund visits the yellow shirts.
