Admitted to Ullevål hospital on oxygen supply, one of the four in charge of the event recounts how he had to drag the unconscious out of his own party.
The party was planned three weeks in advance. The event was dubbed “Rave Cave” and more than 100 people had announced its arrival. From his hospital bed in Ullevål, the 24-year-old recounts how everything went terribly wrong on Sunday night.
– It was not the intention that there were so many, he says. According to the police, up to 200 people may have participated in the cave party, several VGs have also spoken to claim that there were much more than 100 people visiting the cave.
– It was supposed to be quiet, but then more and more people came, and it got out of control.
The event was private and kept secret from the public. The venue for the party was in an old shelter in St. Hanshaugen. In addition to the party participants, units were also placed inside the cave.
According to the 24-year-old, the units, which were powered by lighting and sound systems, were safely locked inside a ventilated room. The police inform VG that they are not familiar with such a ventilated room. Neither does the fire department.
– I don’t know if there is such an air duct inside the mountain facility, but the fact is that we had closed this party in a second regardless of whether the air flow had been good. The suffocating father was just one of them Many things at this event that posed a danger to life and health, says Lars Magne Hovtun, acting chief of staff for the Oslo fire and rescue service.
– The worst violation of the fire law is the lack of escape routes, he adds.

The organizer says the door where the units were located was open and that he found three unconscious people in the room when he moved there.
– I take off my shirt, keep my mouth shut and start to get people out. I have to do this in swimming pools, because it is very difficult to breathe. We can stop the party and get people out, he says.
A total of seven people were unconscious after tonight’s cave party. 25 people were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning, two of whom were policemen. Five people were described as seriously injured, but all are out of danger.
Broke the door
– Did you consider this fact justifiable?
– Yes, it was not the intention that there were so many, and the unit had to be locked in a room. We had already partied from 11 pm to 3 am, no problem.
– Did you think anything about infection control measures?
– We had said on the event page that all those who felt symptoms, compatible with the crown, stayed at home. There were also several who wore face masks at the party.

A man in his 20s, who helped prepare for the event, says they thought the unit was more than sealed.
– We sealed the unit with a bunker door 60 meters from where everyone was. This bunker passage had a hole into the sky, and it wasn’t until someone broke the door that it went wrong, he says.
Aware of the consequences
The man says they don’t necessarily regret the event, but it’s easy to be wise afterward.
– All the guests were aware of the consequences associated with the crown. It may not have been the smart thing to do, but everyone was willing to be quarantined, he says.
He says that most of the people were happy with the result, and that the party was a result after several months with small social events.
– It was to ease the pressure a bit. The party is a way for people to get together and meet their friends, she says.

Regrets
VG has also spoken with several people who were present at the party.
– It seemed very appropriate and as if someone was trying to take responsibility, says a man in his 20s.
The man left the party after an hour and says he’s sorry he participated.
– I’m very ashamed and very worried, he says.
Several of the party participants say they weren’t invited in advance, and were told throughout the night that they could attend a larger party.
– When we arrived we were greeted by two people who helped us through the entrance and down to the cave, says another man.
The man says it was a big cave and that it was full of people.
