Demonstrations throughout the week
In Kenosha, people have been protesting every night this week. Initially, there were riots with damage to houses and cars, and on Tuesday, two protesters were shot and killed by a 17-year-old white boy.
Since then, things have been quieter and on Friday the National Guard deployed 1,000 soldiers to patrol the streets.
– We are heartbroken and furious, but we support the demand for justice, says Tanya McLean, a friend of the family who helped with the event on Saturday.
“He simply justified the murder”
She says the shooting was not an isolated incident, but the result of a brutal and racist system.
– We want an end to police violence and systemic racism in Kenosha; no more independent reforms and useless committees, no more cast solutions for gunshot wounds. It’s time for a fundamental change, she says.
When asked if he had any comments on the shooting of protesters on Tuesday this week, Trump replied that the case is under investigation and that “we are investigating the case very, very carefully.”
The 17-year-old who shot and killed two protesters and wounded another in Kenosha is charged with six crimes, including premeditated murder.
