Nye Veier stops all mobile phone logging in its traffic measurements after the Data Inspectorate criticized whether privacy is sufficiently well cared for.

The highway company records motorists’ mobile phones when conducting travel time analysis, NRK wrote on Wednesday.
Nye Veier has installed traffic counters in various sections connected to development areas. These counters measure, among other things, the number of vehicles and the average speed through mobile phones in cars.
After the Data Inspectorate expressed skepticism about whether the traffic measurement is in line with privacy, the company has stopped all measurements.
“In light of media reports, we have chosen to take a closer look at whether this is correct, as well as to stop measuring travel time,” writes Nye Veier on his website.
The highway company further writes that no personal data is processed in the service. No information on who may have registered there before.
New ways are being discussed with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority to clarify whether everything related to privacy has been clarified.
