Friends of the terrorist Philip Manshaus: changed

The other friend who testified became acquainted with Philip Manshaus when they started working together in Oslo for Steinerskole in 2014. She describes the Philip she knew as kind, funny, fascinating, strange, and a good interlocutor.

She describes Philip as a close friend during this time. Defender Unni Fries asks about her impression of the relationship between Philip and his half-sister Johanne, who is accused of having killed.

“My impression is that the relationship was fine and that she was considered like brothers on a par with brothers,” explains the friend.

At a meeting the two had in the summer of 2018, she experienced that he gave clues that “we must take care of Muslims.” She says Manshaus said there may be too many and that they will take over Norway. The friend says that she felt the conversation very unpleasant and that she was scared.

The last time they met, at Christmas 2018, he says it seemed like Manshaus had taken on a role. He was more concerned with clothes and looks, and she felt it was like meeting a completely different person than the friend she could talk to and relax with earlier.

The third friend who explained himself got acquainted with Philip Manshaus in 2016 when they were both at the end of higher education. They are surrounded by a group of friends, and the friend recounts how well he liked talking to Philip Manshaus, whom he considered reflective and rewarding to talk to.

He says the gang’s visit to a festival in Amsterdam in the summer of 2017 was a turning point. Many people noticed that Philip Manshaus started to walk away and was negative for the solution. The friend explains in court that he began to worry about him. He says a mutual friend later in the fall said that Philip had changed a lot during that summer.

The friend says he noticed that Philip Manshaus was getting increasingly extreme attitudes, including immigration. The topic took up more and more space.

– When this started to come up, it was a topic that occurred to us. That gradually became the main topic of our conversations, says the friend.

The defender calls for a party with the group of friends in June 2019. The friend says he stayed away from Philip that night because he was with a girlfriend, and was concerned that Philip Manshaus would scare her off.

After this party, someone in the group of friends took racist statements that Philip Manshaus must have made.

– At one point, a group chat was done without Philip. I don’t remember if it was right after that party, but it was probably around that time, explains the friend.

Recruitment meeting with neo-Nazis

In July 2019, Philip Manshaus met with two representatives of the neo-Nazi organization The Nordic Resistance Movement (DNM). I had sent an email and applied to become a member. He met two representatives of the tiger outside the Eastern Railway Hall, before having an hour-long meeting at a café in Oslo S.

One of the DNM representatives who met Philip Manshaus, Tommy Nyberg, explained himself as a defense witness on Friday afternoon. He confirmed that he represented DNM when the meeting took place.

Nyberg talks about a recruiting meeting where they ask their standard questions and Philip Manshaus largely answers briefly. He says he had the impression that the defendant had read little about DNM beforehand.

– I got the impression that he had gotten the positions that made him want to become a member, through online forums like 4chan and 8chan, of which I don’t know much, Tommy Nyberg told the court.
