The Swedish jury and viewers agreed: this year’s Melody Grand Prize winner did not deserve points at the Eurovision Song Contest.

This week, two semifinals and the ESC final will launch in Rotterdam. He became known as nothing.

Several countries, however, have found a substitute, and on Thursday night SVT held a television competition where the goal was to find out what contributions the Swedish jury and Swedish audience would receive.

The winner was Nordic: Iceland fell with victory. Got a pot full of people and jury.

Ulrikke Brandstorp’s “Attention”, on the other hand, got nothing.

Historically, Swedes tend to be generous with contributions from the Norwegian ESC. As recently as last year, KEiiNO’s “Spirit In The Sky” received the highest score of 12 points from the Swedish people. The jury was satisfied with four points for Norway.

According to SVT, 1.46 million votes were received on Thursday night. People and juries also agreed that Malta was the second best.

12 finalists

NRK will have a corresponding ESC broadcast on Friday night. Sweden is one of 12 contributions you can vote for. The others are Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Russia, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Iceland, France, Malta, Romania, and Lithuania.

“The 12 finalists are nominated based on input from fans, fan clubs and other experts, as well as based on odds, local polls and song streams,” NRK writes in a press release. .

VG has attempted to contact the NRK ESC Delegation Officer and Ulrikke Brandstorp Manager to comment on the matter, so far with no response.

Solid on Spotify

A Spotify press release states that “Attention” has a large international audience, regardless of what Swedes think.

Of the 41 tracks to compete on this year’s ESC, Ulrikke’s 4.9 million song is the fifth most played on the streaming service worldwide, with Swedish contribution, “Move” by The Mamas, right in the box behind.

Iceland’s contribution, “Think About It” with Dadi Freyr Pétursson, also tops this list. It has 8.8 million visits.

In Norway, “Attention” is played more, according to Spotify, with Iceland in second place.

The critic for the Swedish newspaper Expressen rated “Attention” 3 out of 5 before Thursday’s broadcast.

“Nordic cool powerballade, where the singer impresses in a song that never manages to feel the dark chords of the piano,” writes Maria Brander, who in a comment on the SVT broadcast wonders why this year’s Eurovision finale could not be released from the same way .
