Never before have there been so many people going through the pages of the ship for Finn, not as it was on May 10. In addition, the number of boat sales has soared in May this year compared to last year.

When the crown pandemic broke out in Norway, and it became clear to people that they would probably have to vacation in Norway, Finn. He did not realize that interest in used boats would increase considerably. So it is.

– From May 1 to May 12, we had as many digital contracts signed on ships as we had throughout May of last year. In April, there was a 106 percent increase in the number of purchase contracts signed compared to the same month last year, Magnus Frøshaug Ryhjell, Motor business developer at Finn.no, tells Nettavisen.

122 percent growth

Interest has exploded. This year, the record for visitors to ship ads has been broken up to four or five times.

– On Sunday May 10, we had 332,000 visits to the sides of our boat, and everything has reached its highest point! The previous record was May 3 and was 304,000. In comparison, the record that was held before the crown pandemic was set on July 26 of last year, with 280,000 visits, he says.

But many can visit the sides of the ship to dream. For that very reason, it was important for them to check how many people actually bought, as mentioned, and also how many people showed interest by sending a message to the seller from the ship ad.

– In week 19, up to 122 percent more people sent messages in ship ads compared to the same week last year. This was a ten percent increase from the previous week, says Frøshaug Ryhjell.

– Discordance

They are the most widely used types of archipelago ships and day cruises. On the afternoon of May 14 there are more than 9,000 boats for sale, of which 6610 are used boats and 2559 new boats. There are 2,292 archipelagos for sale and 1,452 day cruises for sale today.

In April 2020, 8.5% more ship ads were posted than in April 2019. Looking at the ads marked as sold in April this year is a 51% increase compared to April last year.

– There is a large increase in interest and inquiries, and an increase in the number of boats for sale. But in my opinion, there is a huge mismatch between supply and demand at the moment, he says.

Frøshaug Ryhjell explains that the reason for this mismatch is likely due to the fact that more people may delay the sale of the boat now that people are beginning to realize that summer must pass in Norway.

“Navigation is obviously an alternative for Norwegians this year, and there are many new boat buyers. It seems that many do not want to sell their boats this year,” he says.

Several register

In digital purchase contracts through Finn.no signed by the buyer and the seller, the buyer can choose whether to register with the Rescue Company and register the boat. More and more people are doing this now than before.

– In April, there was a 50 percent growth in the number of registrations at the Rescue Company, and a 34 percent growth in registered ships, says Frøshaug Ryhjell.

Although interest in used boats has exploded during the crown crisis, Finn. Has also had no contact with boat merchants who fear they will run out of boats and not get more than they already ordered.

“In this way, used boats are very attractive because people can get them faster and want to go to sea in the morning or in the summer,” says Frøshaug Ryhjell.
