Eight prisoners barricaded themselves in the Sem prison in Tønsberg on Tuesday afternoon. They refused to be locked in the cells and vandalism in the hallways.
– We have a great cleaning job to do here. Much technical equipment has been damaged, says Police Chief Robert Holmsen.
Protested the food
It all started as a result of stricter procurement rules. Several commented that the selection of items from the local supermarket has decreased.
All prisoners must be transferred to other jails. In addition, several of them are likely to be reported for vandalism.
The prison does not yet have an overview of the extent of inventory damage. They are likely to be extensive, according to the Holmsen County Jail.
Holmsen does not want to go into detail about what was destroyed. He claims that it is not decided whether or not to be notified. They do not know who destroyed what during the protest action.
During Wednesday, the inmates were interrogated. At the same time, artisans and professionals have made repairs.
– Security is good enough
The Prison and Probation Service is responsible for prisons in Norway. Southern Region Deputy Director Erling Fæste informs NRK that no concrete action will be taken as a result of the incident.
– Security is good enough in prison, they have had a good handle on the crown situation and the opposite situation. Eventually we’ll look at what caused this, says Fæste.
NRK has attempted to obtain a spokesperson or elected representative for the inmates, but has been informed that he is not in Sem prison.
