– Car tracks were observed in the landslide area. Through surveys we have conducted on-site when talking to people, we have learned that these car tracks originate from the homes they belong to. They have been there before, but not now, operations manager Mads Bernhoft at the police tells VG.

A large amount of resources has been requested to assist in the rescue work. Air ambulance, Sea King, fire department, volunteer teams and municipal assistance, according to police.

– We are working on the evacuation, so the geologist informed us that the fjord road should be closed. He is working full time here. So we have good cooperation with the municipality in relation to those who cannot be at home now, he says.

Evacuate more than 10 houses.

NVE is called to conduct assessments regarding new landslides. For security reasons, the police urge people to stay away from the area.

Bernhoft says police initially reported that 10 houses had to be evacuated, but that this is now being expanded on the advice of geologists.

Police say the landslide is estimated to be about 150 meters wide and about 500 meters long. It is unclear when the landslide was triggered, it may have been as early as around 0700.

“What we have been told is that there is a large landslide several hundred meters wide that has crossed a road in the Drevjo area,” rescue officer Ørjan Delbekk in HRS Northern Norway told VG.

When asked if there is a danger that several houses could be pulled out of landslides, Delbekk replies that the situation is unclear at this time.

“It is a very unclear situation, so we must assume the worst,” he says.

– Area with a lot of race

Retired police officer Roald Kjønnås tells VG that he arrived at the site after the accident. He describes it as a huge race with thousands of cubic meters.

– It is an area where things have gone up over time. In the 1700s there was a violent race and 10-15 years ago there was one on the other side that also let the river out, says Kjønnås.

Mayor Berit Hundåla in the municipality of Websn tells VG in 1145 that they have just received information about the landslide.

– The municipality has not yet started anything. We await more information, says the mayor of SP.

The case is being updated.
