Today, the stepmother and father of Philip Manshaus (22) will be explained in the Asker and Bærum district court. Unlike the other witnesses, who explain themselves through a video link, they want to be present in the courtroom to confront the son and stepson accused of murder and terrorists face to face, according to Budstikka.
– It is important that the defendant present in the hall is explained, so that you have a direct impression of how he responds to what she says. He also wants me to see it when it is explained in court, Elisabeth Hagen, an assistant attorney for John’s mother, told the newspaper.
– This is deeply tragic and incomprehensible. I don’t understand who is responsible for the brainwashing of young people and causing them to do such heinous acts, Manshaus’ father said a few days after the murder and attack.
Manshaus has acknowledged both murder and attack, but denies punishment. Instead, it is based on emergency.
The court has denied the stepmother permission to be present in court, it turns out that today’s proceedings are beginning.
– Philip was very loving and simple and made easy friends. He seemed very pleased, says the 60-year-old woman in the witness box.
Growing up together
The murder victim, Johanne Ihle-Hansen, 17, was adopted from China by the Manshaus stepmother, and grew up with him. The defendant explained that he coldly killed her with four shots just after 2 pm on August 10 last year, before going to kill as many Muslims as possible at the Al-Noor mosque.
The 22-year-old has shown no remorse for killing the stepsister. Rather, he has repeatedly insisted that it was the only thing correct because she was of a different race and part of what he called “yellow mud.”
Towards the end of Friday’s statement, Manshaus said the murder was also motivated by a desire to protect his stepmother and father; he thinks that a racial war is imminent in Norway, and that his stepmother and father could be killed by their cousins because they had housed a “racial stranger”.
Manshaus, by the way, declined to explain his personal relationship with Johanne, with whom he occasionally shared a room during his childhood.
Do you want closed doors
The main audience goes only with the parties, judges and defendants present, due to the danger of the crown, but the stepmother and the father want to get an exemption from this. This will be decided at the start of negotiations today at 09.
Defenders of Manshaus have been calling for partially closed doors today, and have been confirmed in parts of the father’s explanation, which refers to “particularly private matters” and his own health.
