– Police are on the scene with several patrols to monitor the situation, police write on Twitter around 4 p.m.
Police write around 5.30 p.m. who are in control.
“They have been locked up there, so we are waiting to get more patrols in place before we do anything,” Øystein Eikedalen chief of police operations told Dagbladet.
According to TV2, the inmates have weapons.
He says he believes the background is not satisfied with the conditions of detention and what they are allowed to buy and take to the cell.
About an hour and a half after the situation began, the police monitor the inmates. No one should be hurt.
Dissatisfied with food selection.
Prison manager Robert Holmsen says inmates are not happy with the food selection.
– We have a situation in which we have some inmates who are not satisfied with a change of routine that has been introduced in relation to the action. They have decided not to return to their cells, Holmsen tells Dagbladet.
It is applied to food.
– Inmates have the opportunity once a week to purchase food for personal use. What started this situation was what goods could they ask for.
– There was a limit to variation in relation to individual products, Holmsen explains.
Dialogue started
Holmsen says they began dialogue with inmates immediately after the situation arose.
The prison manager says the situation was so tight that staff left and locked the door, and inmates then locked the door from the inside. Now they are staying in a walking area.
“We have an operational leader who is now in the situation and is handling this, and we have called the police,” Holmsen told Dagbladet.
Holmsen says he doesn’t want to get into how dangerous the inmates are.
– Initially they don’t have access to weapons, but there are some chairs and tables and so on, he says.
Prison officials withdrew after an assessment of their own safety and the safety of the inmates.

Even before, there have been tense situations in Tønsberg prison. In January 2014, two Polish prisoners were locked up in the prison. The armed forces of the police entered the prison and took control of the situation soon after.
Also at that time there must have been dissatisfaction with the conditions of detention that led to the barricade, according to NFF magazine.
Later that year, a prisoner was sentenced to 21 days in prison for hitting a prisoner in the head with a fork in the summer of 2013.
