Police have asked for further questioning of the three adult children of Anne-Elisabeth and Tom Hagen, their assistant attorney said. Until now, they have refused to speak to the police after their father was charged with murder.

Deputy Attorney General Ståle Kihle confirms to VG that the police have asked the children to request further questioning after Tom Hagen was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife Anne-Elisabeth Hagen.

– They have not been in any new interrogation, says Kihle.

The prosecutor says he obtained access to the case documents on Friday afternoon. The same day, Tom Hagen was released because the trial court believes there is no reasonable reason to suspect murder or complicity in the murder.

– He has given many explanations

While the 70-year-old was in solitary confinement, the police wanted to speak to his children again.

– The children would not be questioned last week and it will be natural for them to consider in the future if they need further explanation. They have already made many police statements, says Kihle.

The lawyer has previously stated to VG that the children’s main concern is that the police have abused their resources when investigating their father, as they are convinced that it has nothing to do with the disappearance of their mother.

– They worry that no one is looking for Lisbeth, that’s what the matter is about. All parties agree that she disappeared from Sloraveien on October 31 and that there was a ransom letter there. That is the right way to go, Kihle told VG on Tuesday.

It also emphasizes that the children, of course, want to work with the police to find Anne-Elisabeth Hagen.

– Wrong way

Almost a year ago, on June 26, 2019, the police released information that their main hypothesis had changed: they now believed that Anne-Elisabeth Hagen was likely killed and considered that they were less likely to face a motive financial kidnapping.

The aid lawyer fears that the police have gone the wrong way for a long time.

– It could have had dramatic consequences. My clients wonder when the police stopped considering this as a kidnapping case.

Kihle says he has noticed that the police have stated that they have investigated the case extensively from the start.

– It does not calm my clients or me. There is nothing to indicate that they have done this for a long time or will continue to do so, says Kihle.

Tom Hagens defends the police: – I do not understand what has changed

Like Tom Hagen’s defense, Svein Holden defends assistant attorney Ståle Kihle over what he believes is inconsistency in the police case.

It notes, inter alia, that Tom Hagen is charged with murder or complicity in the murder, while a man in his 30s is charged with complicity in serious deprivation of liberty, after his charges against him were changed.

– How can you deprive someone who the police believe is already murdered in Sloraveien? Here, do the police change the charges and release a defendant on the grounds that there is no danger of proof? There appears to be complete confusion on the part of the research leadership, says Kihle.

VG has been in contact with the police, which on Tuesday night did not respond to criticism.

In a press release on Sunday, the Eastern Police District wrote that its main hypothesis is that Anne-Elisabeth Hagen has been killed and that the scene is Sloraveien 4.

Police emphasized that the primary objective of the investigation is to find Anne-Elisabeth Hagen, find out what happened to her, and clarify who is responsible.

– The charge against the 30-year-old man was modified according to the information provided in the interrogation. Police still believe that we are facing murder, but because different people may have had different roles, the charges may apply to others other than murder. We still believe that the man in his 30s has a role in the case, prosecutor Haris Hrenovica said in the press release.
