More than 50 children in New York have been diagnosed with a rare inflammatory disease that may be related to the coronavirus, said city mayor Bill de Blasio.
52 children have been diagnosed with what is known as Kawasaki syndrome, a rare disease that causes persistent fever, rashes, abdominal pain, swollen glands, and vomiting in children.
– Scary
Ten other children have similar symptoms and are now being investigated, de Blasio said.
Of the 62, 25 have tested positive for the corona virus, while 22 have antibodies against the virus. One of the children has lost his life, according to the mayor of New York.
In other parts of the United States, as well as in several European countries, children are hospitalized with the same symptoms. In some cases, blood vessels and vital organs like the heart and coronary arteries can also become inflamed.
“This is stimulating, it’s just discouraging,” says Bill de Blasio, who encourages parents to be on guard and immediately seek medical attention on suspicion that children may have contracted the disease.
