More than 200,000 students will be offered an additional loan from the Loan Fund this week if they can document the loss of income due to the crown crisis.

In total, students can receive NOK 26,000 where 8,000 will become scholarships. NOK 26,000 is an average two-month income for students living abroad, the Ministry of Education said when it was presented in late March.

“This money ensures that many students who are in a difficult financial situation have more money to deal with,” Research and Higher Education Minister Henrik Asheim (H) said in a press release.

Managing Director of the Loan Fund, Nina Schanke Funnemark, says that students who receive loans and scholarships this semester will receive an email in the coming days.

– Those who are entitled to the additional loan will be able to log into their pages and submit an application. Emails will be sent in bulk over several days, and no one can search until you receive this email. Applicants must complete a self-declaration confirming the decrease in income between March 1 and June 15, 2020 due to the crown outbreak, she says.

Asheim says the money will be in the account in a few days.

– The money will be paid in a few days. This is in addition to the fact that the rest of the student support for the semester was paid in April and that students may qualify for the temporary salary compensation scheme. The sum of this helps to help students in the situation we find ourselves in, he says.

The Loan Fund will carry out random checks on applicants to verify that they have actually lost income as a result of the crown. If applicants have provided incorrect information, parts of the loan will not be converted into scholarships and the applicant is at risk of not being able to receive support from the Loan Fund later.
