Mood was elected leader in 2017 and resigns after just one term. His two predecessors, Sven Mollekleiv and Thorvald Stoltenberg, sat for three periods for a total of nine years.

– It happens after a general evaluation in which I made my contribution. Three years is short and six years too long, he says.

Mood has previously been Army inspector general and, among other things, commander of the UN observation force in Syria.

– I really have a basic starting point that it is good for organizations that leadership positions are round. It could be an occupational injury that I think is healthy with dynamics and rotation, he says.

Active debate

In addition to the presidential position, Robert Mood is an active social debate that has sometimes caused high temperatures with his analyzes of leadership, politics, and democracy.

After Knut Aastad Bråten (V) resigned as secretary of state at the Ministry of Culture last week due to what he referred to as “non-cultural” in politics, Mood tweeted the following:

“To be scared! There is no place in politics for people who have high integrity and are sharp and knowledgeable. Our democracy must be revitalized now; Time constraints for Storting, the salary of citizens, the Council of citizens and community service for all is a good start! ”

– My theme is management and transition. I do not contest as president of the Red Cross. From a management perspective, we know from keen and operational professions, that when Norwegian special forces must take on difficult tasks that deal with life and death, participation is extremely important, Mood says.

– Something we have to live with

Nominating committee chair Marit Sognli Gladsø says some of Mood’s works have sparked reactions among members.

– Former President Sven Mollekleiv always declared himself President of the Red Cross. Robert Mood also has a role of social debate. It’s something we have to live with, she says.

Like the rest of the board, Mood was asked if he wanted to run for reelection. The nominating committee is now working to find a new presidential candidate to be elected at the October national meeting.
