Svein Østvik’s “letter fever” profile (58) quickly became an audience favorite when she participated in the celebrity edition of “Farmen” in 2019. She received thousands of inquiries from viewers after she had to leave the farm, so there is no doubt that the 58 year old enchanted the hearts of the Norwegian people.
It may be due to Østvik’s good humor and infectious laugh, but possibly also his openness to the dark sides of life. Charter-Svein has struggled for many years with substance abuse and has spoken honestly about addiction to pills and alcohol in interviews with the media.
In a new interview with Dagbladet Magasinet, the television profile now opens up about his heavy years of substance abuse and addiction to alcohol, tobacco, and gambling. Today, the 58-year-old man has calmed down and significantly reduced his alcohol consumption.
– From 1990 to 1996, I lived as an alcoholic. Many people get angry when they say “they’ve been an alcoholic,” but I think it’s bankruptcy to say that they’re alcoholics forever. Now I have learned to limit myself, Østvik says to Dagbladet.
I went to therapy
Østvik has undergone a number of changes lately. The TV profile stopped smoking and playing, and the party got much smaller. He also admits in the interview that he entered therapy to address the causes of addiction.
The 58-year-old actor became famous as a participant in the reality show “Charter fever”, which aired on TV3 for the first time in 2006. On the farm “Farm celebrity”, Østvik also spoke openly about the difficult relationship with his father while grew.
When Østvik drank the worst in the 1990s, however, father and son reconciled, he tells Dagbladet Magasinet.
– There was a disorder in my life when I spoke to him and he apologized. I went from being afraid of my father, to reconciliation and forgiveness.
As mentioned, Østvik has spoken about childhood several times before, and in an interview with Se og Hör in March 2019, the 58-year-old man said he had sought refuge in alcohol and that he could drink up to 40 beers a day.
For a long time, Svein struggled to deal with painful childhood memories and performance anxiety, and thus the path to the bottle was short.
– Most people drink hurt feelings, but for me it was just the opposite. I drank to stop the feeling of happiness. It was difficult for me to cope with my strong and talented sides that were not seen to grow. Every time I had a happy moment, I had to go back to drinking, said the “Farm Celebrity” profile at the time.
Mother passed away
In the 1990s, Svein Østvik and his father reconciled. The reality profile and the father talked about the childhood years. They had a close relationship in recent years, until their father died in 2004.
– At the end of his life we get along very well. So it was pure love, something he had unfortunately not been able to express for much of his life, Østvik said in the interview with Se and Hør last year.
On Christmas Eve last year, Østvik also experienced the loss of her mother, Lilli. She turned 93 years old and died after a brief illness. Østvik and his mother had a good relationship, and he has previously been part of TV show 3 “Charter Fever” with his son.
– You just can’t do it anymore, but you have too much jaggu! Your best heart of gold. You who claimed nothing, but who gave and gave to your children and grandchildren. You should know that I’m crying. You must know that I will miss you. You should know that you have been a great help! Thank you, dear mother, you told Østvik about your mother to see and hear when the death was announced in early January.
