Arsenal are about to sign a 19-year-old Norwegian who has never played in the Elite Series. In addition to skills, an important detail may have been recorded.

On Friday, several English media outlets reported that Arsenal are in the process of signing 19-year-old Norwegian George Lewis. The 19-year-old, who got two jumps for Fram Larvik in the 2nd Division last season, should be close to agreeing with the Premier League giant on a contract.

He is reportedly initially slated to take a place on Arsenal’s U23 team.

Lewis, who, after last year’s stay in Larvik, was tried at the London club in March, should have impressed the club’s coaches with speed and skill.

In addition to the exciting skills Lewis displayed during his stay in London, there is also another important factor that should have influenced Arsenal’s interest in the relatively unknown Norwegian, who has never played higher than the OBOS league at home in Norway.

Arsenal is sponsored by “Visit Rwanda” and in 2018 signed a three-year agreement with the African country. The Rwandan Tourism Board pays NOK 350 million to have its name on the shoulder of Arsenal players when they play in the Premier League.

The deal drew attention when, according to the English newspaper Daily Mail, it was also learned that Rwanda receives billions in aid each year. The UK alone contributes NOK 700 million, according to the newspaper.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame himself is a great defender of the club and was previously active on Twitter and shared his views on Arsenal for “his beloved.”

Lewis himself would prefer to comment as little as possible on reports of the possible transfer to the Premier League club, but he eases the veil when Nettavisen makes contact.

That’s right. There are many votes, but just wait and see. I think you’ll see something in a few days or weeks, “Lewis tells Nettavisen.

The 19-year-old was born in Kingali and his parents come from Rwanda. He is currently at home in Norway, where he was raised.

– I’m in Tromsø now. The last time I was in London was in March, says Lewis.

– a little rough

The Norwegian by the name of George Lewis Igaba-Ishimwe Maniraguha previously played three games in the OBOS league for Tromsdalen in 2018. Last season there were two jumps for Fram Larvik in the second division.

Former Fram Larvik sports coach Ørjan Berg Hansen is somewhat surprised when he learns of the interest of one of England’s biggest clubs.

– Yes, it’s a little surprising. He was alone with us for a while, but he has great potential. At the same time, it was a little tough and I wasn’t ready for our level last year, ”Berg Hansen tells Nettavisen.

Lewis left the club after the 2019 season and this winter he has trained with second division club Fløya in Tromsø.

Roar Myrvang is a leader in the Norwegian Arsenal fan club. He has been watching the news of the favorite club waiting for the Premier League to roll again.

– I found out that you are impressed with a trial game in March. Well, that’s it. I have never heard of it before, I have not. But of course if it had impressed on the test it would have been a lot of fun with a Norwegian at Arsenal, Myrvang tells Nettavisen.

The party leader has even read from several who speculate that Arsenal’s interest should be fueled by the Rwandan origins of the Norwegian.

– We can’t ignore it, but I don’t know. I can’t say that in any way if that’s why it’s relevant to Arsenal, he says.

– that’s the dream

Back in the children’s room in Tromsø, Lewis is sitting waiting for the next challenge in his career.

– What do you think about a possible transition?

– Unfortunately I can’t comment on this at the moment.

– What role have you been predicted?

– I can’t really say anything about it now. I realize you’re asking, but I still can’t say anything.

– Do you know how Arsenal’s interest arose?

– They saw me play here at home in Tromsø during their drink this winter.

– How was your stay there in March?

– I trained with team A. It was huge. That’s all I can say now.

– What do you think about the link between Rwanda and Arsenal and their interest in that regard?

– I do not know. I cannot say anything special about Arsenal now. I don’t know anything about it, it’s the first time I’ve heard it, concludes a brief Lewis before he hangs up.
