The night before Anne-Elisabeth Hagen was reported missing by now-murderous husband Tom Hagen (70), they shared a table with a couple of friends at Brasserie Hansken in Oslo. Later they were in the theater.
Now the 70-year-old couple tells VG about Anne-Elisabeth Hagen’s last night before she disappeared.
Tuesday, October 30, 2018: The married couple Hagen ordered a taxi to their home at Sloraveien 4 in Fjellhamar in Lørenskog. They had a date with a couple of friends in Oslo that night. The taxi took them to Brasserie Hansken, a restaurant in the capital recommended in the Michelin Guide.
– Tonight’s occasion was retaliation. After I retired, we agreed to invite them to the restaurant and the theater. We and they both came abruptly when we suddenly had two theater tickets, the pair of friends tells VG.

In the short term, therefore, the married couple Hagen was invited to date.
– I called Tom, who was consulting with Lisbeth. She called after half an hour and thought it was nice and accepted the invitation.
Both have been questioned by the police and they are clear that this is the only interview they want to give regarding the case.
– With this interview we have announced what we have to say about the case.
The couple describes dinner in the restaurant as “trustworthy and pleasant”, as so often before. The meal lasted a few hours.
– We talk about everything and nothing, children and grandchildren. It is easy to be with them, the conversation flowed easily and everything was as on previous occasions, they say.
The couple, a married couple in the 1970s from eastern Norway, have known Tom and Anne-Elisabeth Hagen since the 1980s. The history of long-standing friendship is due to the work of men and the fact that their paths have been crossed in this regard.
– Tom and I have had a business relationship for many years, says the man.
After dinner at Brasserie Hansken, the tour continued to Det Norske Teatret. In police interrogations, the couple of friends were asked, among other things, what path they took, what they were wearing and if they felt persecuted.
At the theater, they watched the popular and acclaimed satire musical “The Book of Mormon,” starring Frank Kjosås and Kristoffer Olsen. At 8:03 pm, the stage blanket was applauded from a crowded room. The show ended at 22.37.
– We don’t talk much after the theater. There was gray and rain in the air and everyone wanted to go home. It was hectic and we were outside for a short time before the two of them got into a taxi. We said goodbye, disappeared and greeted each other. It was the last time we saw Lisbeth, says the man in his 70s.
The taxi driver who brought the married couple Hagen to their home in Sloraveien on Fjellhamar in Lørenskog describes a very ordinary journey.
– I don’t remember much now, a long time ago, but I don’t remember anything special happening on that trip, says the taxi driver to VG. He has been questioned by the police.
The married couple Hagen came home late this fall night. The taxi driver was one of the last to see Anne-Elisabeth Hagen before the disappearance. Police believe she was probably killed in her own home the next morning.
Then the weeks passed. Police kept the disappearance case hidden from the public. But in the month of November to December, the police called Tom Hagen’s business partner.
– I was traveling abroad and I was interviewed by phone. The wife was at home in Norway and was questioned here. We were told that Lisbeth was gone, that she was missing, and that we had to handle the information with the utmost discretion. The message came in handy, he says.

The couple describes Anne-Elisabeth as a sweet and personable person, in every way. They also say that she was a family-loving wife, mother and grandmother, and that she also assisted her husband in business operations.
– We only have positive and pleasant experiences with it. It is incomprehensible that someone kill her, they say.
For ten weeks, the police kept the disappearance secret, in part because of the threat letter that came out of the residence. There Anne-Elisabeth was threatened with death, and Tom Hagen demanded nine million euros in the crypto currency Monero.
– We were unaware that the case was being investigated as a kidnapping case before police disclosed it at the January 2019 press conference. It is unusual to be kidnapped in Norway, and the case raises awareness due to staff gallery . Many were amazed, says the man in his 70s.

A month after the kidnapping case was made public, the pair of friends returned from another trip abroad. They say they had not been in contact with Tom Hagen since the pleasant night a few months in advance.
I contacted Tom directly by phone and told him we were there to help him. We had a good conversation then, says the man.
The couple describes Tom Hagen as a very ordinary person, except that he is a billionaire.
– He is a direct and understanding person who has many interests. He asks questions in all directions and is a clearly suspicious person with whom it is not easy to gain trust. It takes many years, says the man in his 70s.
In June last year, the police changed their main theory for the investigation. They no longer believed that she was kidnapped against her will by one or more kidnappers for financial reasons.
Now, the clear view of the police was that Anne-Elisabeth Hagen had been killed and that the person or persons behind her had tried to trick them into covering up the murder as a kidnapping.
– Then we were surprised, says the couple of friends.
– No one could have foreseen or thought that something was going to happen to Anne-Elisabeth. It is not
A week and a half ago, the case took another turn: Tom Hagen was arrested and charged with murder or complicity in the murder. Tom Hagen rejects the criminal charges and, through his advocate, Svein Holden has been made aware that it has nothing to do with the disappearance of his wife.
– We have known him for many years and have never thought of those paths. We were surprised that this happened and was related to what the police discovered. We hope that the matter is resolved and that we know what happened so that everyone can reconcile it. Criminal law causes the police to rush and reach a conclusion, whether it be dismissed or at trial.

Tom Hagen’s defense attorney, Svein Holden, has previously stated that Hagen’s digital skills are old school, that the client has an old Nokia mobile phone and that it is not a joke to send him messages.
The defender believes that the absence of digital experience makes him less likely to be behind the murder of his wife and what the police believe is an attempt at blackmail.
– What is your impression of Tom Hagen’s computer skills?
– While I had contact with him, he was obviously out of his field of interest. He had an old cell phone that he barely had or was available with, responds the man in his 70s.
Tom Hagen was released from Oslo prison on Friday afternoon, but the murder charge remains.
